Program Assistant (South Evergreen Day Center)

SUMMARY

Performs personal care for participants and assists management in implementing activity programs; and is required to substitute at any Neighborly Center when ratio requirements (client census) dictate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides and assists participants with personal care and assists nurse as needed, per written plan of care, including, but not limited to, assisting individuals who use canes, walkers and have an unsteady gait, and assist with toilet activities and pushing wheelchairs.

  • Reports and/or records changes in participants’ status/behavior.

  • Assist and maintain a working partnership with volunteers in areas such as orientation to center, participants and their needs, training and center participants activities.

  • Maintains the cleanliness of the center.

  • Substitutes at any of the other centers as assigned, performing primary and secondary functions as directed by the Center Manager in assigned center.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Human Development, including the process of aging.
  • Record keeping and clerical office procedures.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communications.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure with deadlines.
  • Work effectively with community/statewide agencies
  • Maintain department, agency and client confidentiality. Knowledge of current principles, methods and standards of nursing.
  • Knowledge of community health and medical resources.
  • Skill in supervising ,evaluating and monitoring staff.
  • Ability to provide training workshops.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience or CNA/HHA certification

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in adult day care environment and regularly works with interruptions.  The employee occasionally works with steam tables.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Depending upon client participation and based on employee to client ratio requirements, employees are required to be able to travel to any Neighborly center to perform their work. Also, during those periods of time when the center (client) census is low, employees may be asked to volunteer to take their PTO or leave without pay. If there are no volunteers, the ADC Director, or his/her designee, has the authority to select an employee to involuntarily take PTO or leave without pay. An ADC policy addresses this in more detail.

Exposure to confused, potentially aggressive and upset participants may occur daily
