Program Assistant

SUMMARY

Performs personal care for participants and assists management in implementing activity programs; and is required to substitute at any Neighborly Center when ratio requirements (client census) dictate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides and assists participants with personal care and assists nurse as needed, per written plan of care, including, but not limited to, assisting individuals who use canes, walkers and have an unsteady gait, and assist with toilet activities and pushing wheelchairs.

  • Leads, motivates develops and assists participants in the program of therapeutic, recreation and educational activities, per written plan of care, including, but not limited to, demonstrating physical exercise and assisting participants in performing physical exercises

  • Reports and/or records changes in participants’ status/behavior.

  • Substitutes at any of the other centers as assigned, performing primary and secondary functions as directed by Center Manager in assigned center.

  • Assist and maintaining a working partnership with volunteers in areas such as orientation to center, participants and their needs, training and center participants activities.

  • Maintains the cleanliness of the center.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of human development, including the process of aging.

  • Ability to learn and implement the variety of therapeutic recreational activities that can be established at multipurpose activity centers for the elderly.

  • Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.

  • Highly organized

  • Ability to lead small and large group activities.

  • Maintain client and agency confidentiality.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience or CNA/HHA certification

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Abuse and Criminal Background Check
  • CNA/HHA Certified, if applicable
  • Statement of Good Health and TB Test
  • CPR Certification as required by A.H.C.A
