Since 1966 Neighborly has served the elderly with ever-expanding programs to “improve health, wellness, and independent living for individuals and families.”
Mission
Improved Health, Wellness, and Independent living for individuals and families.
Vision
Neighborly is a pioneer of innovative quality solutions that enhance our customers’ way of life. We are a leader in providing superior health, home and community-based services, education, consultation and support for wellness and self-directed care.
History
Neighborly opened in 1966 with a group of concerned citizens in Pinellas County who came together to brainstorm ways to create services to meet the needs of the growing senior population. The Neighborly Center, Inc. was created as a nonprofit agency with the mission of studying and fulfilling the needs of seniors in Pinellas County.
In 1968, Neighborly began providing direct services for Adult Day Services and Home Meal Delivery (Meals on Wheels) – two areas research discovered was essential. Neighborly served more than 108 people in these two programs that year.
Home Meal Delivery services started in the back of a van. Neighborly provides nutritious meals to more than 1,000 home-bound seniors and Adult Day Center clients daily, thanks to dedicated volunteers and donors.
Neighborly soon recognized the need for a place where adults 60 and older could receive hot, nutritious meals and meet new people and remain active. In 1973, Neighborly opened its first Senior Dining site in Dunedin. Today we have several Senior Cafes throughout the county where individuals can socialize and enjoy a delicious meal.
Neighborly further expanded its services by creating a transportation program. Vans began transporting seniors to medical appointments, Adult Day Centers, Senior Dining sites, and grocery shopping. Today transportation provides over 75,000 trips for individuals annually, utilizing a fleet of specially equipped buses, vans, and cars with drivers trained in elder care.
Leadership
Neighborly has a team of passionate and diverse individuals whose main purpose is to provide the best services and programs to enhance the health, wellness and independent living of seniors in Pinellas County.
We are supported by a volunteer board of directors whose passion and experience help enhance the quality of life for the people we serve.
